Inner and Outer Observations

I wast late to the Netflix party because . . . . . video stores.  I miss them, I loved them.  Streaming felt like I was cheating on them.

But now, they’re mostly all gone.  (At least here, anyway.  I heard that there are still some around.  Might they also make a comeback, the way records did?)  I have to move forward, I have to watch SOMEthing when I get done with work and sit mindlessly crafting in my chair.

Thankfully we’ve come across some fabulous BBC programming.  I couldn’t be happier!  We blew through every single season available of the Great British Bake Off/Baking Show, then moved on to the Great Pottery Throw Down, British Home Cooks, and are now rolling around in the clover field that is Love Your Garden plus Big Dreams Small Spaces.

Where it all takes me is to a Happy Place.  Speaking the Queen’s English, proper teas, misty cool weather, ancient smooth stones, and a soft genuine caring for others.  Where it has brought my focus is to:

For nearly one full year now we’ve lived in a rental house which doesn’t belong to us.  The dwelling that DOES have our names on it, isn’t where we currently dwell.  It can feel unsettled.  And not cozy.

What I keep being reminded, whether it’s by a clay artist, a master gardener, or classically trained chefs who create/toil side-by-side with messy amateurs, is that, the old saying Home is Where Your Heart Is has some truth to it.

We can make a house a home simply by being in it.  Or, we can suffer with (as Dan calls them when I have a severely strong bout of) The Wanty Wants.  Being miserable about what we don’t have doesn’t make anything better for anyone.  It certainly does not fill the needy gaps.

Looking for a way to improve our surroundings, even if it ends up being in tiny, inexpensive ways, brightens our mood, helping to lift us up, instead of dragging us down.

It’s about Transition, it’s about Observation, it’s about Perspective.  There is movement forward.  There are changes we can’t avoid, we may as well embrace them.  It has everything to do with an Attitude Adjustment.

Which, as a surprise to no one, is precisely where our attention is drawn, here, reminding us of the life-death-rebirth cycle.  It’s a process, and it’s progress.

home and transformation

“Crocodile   ~ the alchemy of energy teaches that death will always yield new life.

Silently slipping through her riverine world, guardian of the margins between land and water, of the mud from which life springs, Crocodile is keeper of all knowledge.

Her wisdom speaks both of the enduring nature of life and its utter fragility, of gentleness and ferocity of how death yields life and the constant transformation of all energy.

If Crocodile has swum to you, the time has come to examine the primordial mysteries of life and prepare yourself for rebirth and the wonders it will bring.”

My home decor options are limited, so I do what I’m able with what I can find.   Observing our “home” as a feeling-in-motion, rather than a solid place we own or create, can help those of us who are re-birthing right now.

It seems less severe when we view our living situation as an emotion (a feeling, a heart-flow) instead of a location (a place or a limit).

Divine Due Diligence

In children, being stubborn is looked upon as a bad thing, a character defect we need to correct.  But as an adult, we’re praised for our determination.

What the Universe wants us to pay attention to right now has to do with that stick-to-it-ness, that steadfast tenacity.  The attitude of persistence is where we need to be aiming our energy.

All night long

(go ahead and sing it with me, won’t you?)

It’s about perseverance, not giving up just before the miracle.  It’s about replacing our fear with faith.  (Or whatever solid positive belief works best for you.)

It’s about being the best we can be, for the long haul.  Admittedly, that’s not easy.  What can make it more tolerable though, is to see how very important it is.  How valuable staying on our path is.  A gentle reminder, like in meditation, bringing it back to center.

When we go forward with intent, with honesty, with lovingkindness, we tend to make excellent progress.  On the other hand, all of us can do with a bit of a rest.

No one is asking us to work our selves into exhaustion.  Downtime and Self-Care is PART of staying on course.  It’s PART of our journey.

The key here is to not let the “fuck it, I give up” feelings overwhelm us to the point of despair.  Because I promise you, we’ve all been in that sinking boat.

Acknowledge it, then, let it go.  On our card altar is another pretty helpful way of looking at this message; perseverance and perspective, together they seem to be a winning combination.

“God of Reflections  ~

‘The qualities you see in others are simply your own reflection.’

You are possibly giving away your power because you might fail to recognise and honour the many wondrous qualities that you possess.

The qualities you so admire in others are simply reflections of the same attributes within yourself.  Yet often, you falsely believe that others are better than you in some way.  It is now time to let go of this belief and allow your beauty, talent, and creativity to shine through.

From now on, every time you see beauty in another, let it serve to remind you of your own beauty.  If you recognise success in another, check to see how success also exists within you, and so on.

As your perceptions are brought into balance, you become a more effective force in the world and have more impact on those around you.

By acknowledging all the beautiful qualities that you already possess, you open the door to an endless stream of abundance and blessings which stem from the heart of creation.”

Our (In- and) Out-Look

Sometimes we say “I wouldn’t change a thing” or we regret a choice and feel more like, “I totally would have done things differently.”  Both are valid responses.  Both tell their own story.

Our message today though, reminds us that it’s more about how we perceive those moments than how they truly played out.

It’s that gift of Perspective which we’ve been handed before.  And that means it must be time to look with our soul eyes again.  Not with our physical ones.  The physical ones show an illusion, while the view from a spiritual place brings us the accurate representation of what’s seriously important.

When we see what the gods and goddesses see, what the Universe and the angels see, we understand better just how fortunate and truly blessed we are.  We can better comprehend our journey and our holiness this way.

Because we are.  Sacred, that is.  We are beyond, and more-than these bodies we wear.  We are so VERY much more.  When we Look, and when we See.

On our card altar right now that’s being validated in a big way.

see and look

“Coming to Life  ~  29

‘Something beautiful is being born in your life.’

When you look at your life, can you see how you’ve grown and evolved over time?  Perhaps you have even shed ‘skins’ and identities and created new ones, or at the very least matured in your ideas about yourself and the world you inhabit.

You know things take time, and Spirit’s timetable is rarely in sync with your own.

This card indicates that a long-held dream is beginning to show signs of life.  You must try not to coax it along, or shape it according to your desires.  Spirit knows the best form for manifestation of this dream, and your life can become even better than you could possibly imagine.

Now is the time for reverence and awe.  Allow the contours of your path to be carved by the hands of the Divine.  All you have to do is show up.”

is THIS PIECE in a pretty big-time publication (the paper version hits newsstands first of next month).  Yeah, scroll down to the category of Opinionators , you’ll see my girl (and those other two beautiful mouthy broads).

Yep, they’re influential, officially.  Yep, their parents are all pretty damn proud.  Officially.

Eye of the Beholder

There are Universal Laws and all-encompassing truths, within which we all live.  What we don’t always realize though, is how simple we are able to pare our sacred selves down to.  While still maintaining that truthful reality.

As people, sharing space here, we have far more commonalities than we do differences.  But only when viewed with that aspect of removing the dishonest, falsely created complications can we see it, can we see others and their similarities.

All of us, our soul journey, our life experience is ……….

a mixed bag.

There must be a balance.  Very often we feel wrong-footed, and begin to topple.  Losing our center, losing our balance.

If we were to look at the Mixed Bag we’ve gathered, peering inside to see all the treasures and trash, we could sort out the reasons for our imbalance.  Tossing out* what we no longer need.

*Composting or recycling, never into the landfill!

What I saw with this message was not, as we might expect, a set of scales, or an actual bag.  No, I was shown a stylized version of the human form.  With the arms and legs and middle and neck and head holding groups of items.

The “bag” is us.  We are the containers.  We hold the mixed-up lessons and gifts.  We are the scales.

Our gathered contents have to be balanced, to keep us balanced and on track.  When we feel overwhelmed or loaded down, it’s because our Mixed Bag has become too stuffed full of that which we no longer need to carry.

Time to unpack.  Time to let go.  Time to make a trip to the recycle center and pass those items on to their next loving home.

As we look to our card altar right now, this reminder is validated by showing where else we can utilize balance.

light beings

“Goddess of Beauty  ~

‘You are a wondrous being of light;

there is nothing to change or fix.’

You are a wondrously beautiful being of light, yet you cannot see it because you are comparing yourself to others instead of looking honestly and lovingly at yourself.

Meditate upon the image of this card and allow your light and natural beauty to shine through.  You are beautiful just as you are.  There is nothing to change or fix; just love and accept yourself as you are.

As you honour the beautiful person that you are, others will feel the light and warmth radiating from you.

As a result, you will attract wonderful and generous people into your life that will love and appreciate you for all you truly are.

Just be yourself – that is where your beauty lies!”

Our Selection Process

I woke up with questions in my head today.  As if our message was one that we needed to ask about, instead of answer.  Because ya know, not enough challenges!

Although, once they began to settle, the way it appeared made more sense.  (Eventually.)  And our daily draw suited it perfectly.  (No fighting this process, seriously.)

Doing What We Love

What are we passionate about?  What makes our heart sing?  Who do we enjoy spending time with?  Where do we feel the most at home?

Are we taking all the steps necessary to be Joyful?  Are we sharing lovingkindness at every opportunity?  Are we stopping to take a mindful quiet moment and say Thank You?

What we are being reminded of is that, there’s always a choice.  We can always step off, and move another direction.  There are more options than we can even imagine.

All we really have to do IS to imagine!  Just think it up, it’s there.  Bring it to that amazingly simple focus of choice.  And then, pick something.

The way we can put this in to practice is by utilizing the trick of this Major Arcana representative.

The Hanged Man ~ 12

His entire aim is to help us with perspective.  Have you ever draped yourself across a bed or couch, on your back, with your head hanging over the edge?

Doesn’t the entire room appear different?  Even if it’s a room you’ve been in a zillion times?  That’s the gift of our Hanged Man.

He is not being hung, he is in the act of hanging, looking at his world from another vantage point.  And that’s what he wants us to do.

When we see things (options, choices, avenues of travel) from another angle, we are better able to move forward.  Also, we’re just better able to move.  Because, from that point, that different perspective, we can truly see.
