Safe Travels, and thanks for everything……

Today’s post is dedicated to my father-in-law, who went Home on Wednesday morning.  (That would be the exact same day my best friend Karen left us four years ago, for those of you playing along at home and keeping score of the bizarre-ness which is my life.)

He was a guy devoted to his family before all else.  Sure, in some ways he was also a man of his generation, but he learned as he aged. No matter what I was reading or writing or doing, he was interested.  He told me once, “send me anything.  I might not understand all of it, but I’ll sure try.”

He became even more compassionate (if that’s possible) once the grandkids started showing up.  He was lucky enough to have three children, who brought him twice that many more.  As an only child, this meant a great deal.

We’ll all miss him, hell, we already do!  But we’ll also remember what an amazingly loving influence he was on us, each in our own way.

Family First

Family First

Just, do me a favor, hug the ones you love.  Because, even though we know where we’re all going and things are fine, it’s still difficult and painful.

Today’s Sharing:

Go HERE and see what I’m talking about.  Then, go find the book.  I got mine from our library, but I will be purchasing a copy (or 3) as soon as I’m able to.  That way I can hand them out to those in need.

(Once you’ve read it, come back here and tell me what you think, and better yet, how your mind has been blown and how you are now going to change some things.  Because that’s what this book does, it gets in your head and makes your rethink shit.)

Late Note:

as I was getting up and going today, we had to deal with THIS.  That vehicle was being driven by my father, mom in the passenger seat.  Her purse (with most of their money), their best coats, his prescription sunglasses, all the groceries, and both their phones went up in the blaze.  (Also a bunch more stuff in the back, they are still trying to figure out what is gone.  It’s a lot.)

We just need this week to be over now.

Go HERE to see the news report; Hanna has set up an e-mail address so folks who want to reach out can get in touch with her to help them.

To Live with Freedom and Purpose

When we set out to live with intention, to live a mindful life, acquire a lovingkindness mindset, we are already improved.  We’ve taken the first, crucial step.  We’ve made a decision.

As sometimes happens though, the busy-ness of culture and society derail us.  We try to reconnect, even through the noise.  But it can be difficult, a challenge to hear the calm, the peace, the grace that we strive for.

Today’s message, our reminder from The Universe, is a useful tool.  Here is an addition to our bag of tricks, something we can count on and utilize.  Exactly what we need right now, the means to keep our aim true.

“Bring your focus back,” that’s what we’re told in meditative practice.  When the attention wanders, simply bring it back.  Allow our Observation Mind to notice it, then let it go.

Can it be that easy, so freaking basic?  Yep.  It totally can.  And is.  As long as we apply it with liberal abandon.  No scrimping, no closed fists.

Put that Attentiveness on everything, like a multi-use and delicious condiment.  After enough times, it truly does become more automatic.  We CAN bring ourselves back to center, back to sacred.

As a consequence, the serenity too, becomes easier to grab and hold on to.

This entire intentional, mindful aspect is validated on our card altar right now.  Additionally, its numerical definition shows us the truth in that very duality.

(It adds down like this: two plus nine is eleven, one plus one is two.  The cycle-set meaning that we’ve begun, we are on our way.)

“Coming to Life  ~  29  ~

‘Something beautiful is being born in your life.’

When you look at your life, can you see how you have grown and evolved over time?  Perhaps you’ve even shed ‘skins’ and identities and created new ones, or at the very least matured in your ideas about yourself and the world you inhabit.

You know things take time, and the Spirit world’s timetable is rarely in sync with your own.

This card indicates that a long-held dream is beginning to show signs of life.  You must try not to coax it along, or shape it according to your desires.

Spirit knows the best form for the manifestation of this dream, and your life can become even better than you could possibly imagine.

Now is the time for reverence and awe.  Allow the contours of your path to be carved by the hands of the Divine.

All you have to do is show up.”

is THIS perfect piece of wonderfulness that I recently came across.

If I’d met someone like Lindy West when I was young, it would have saved me (and my entire family) a fuckton of pain, heart-ache, and expense.  She’s beautiful and smart and I can’t wait to buy the book she’s currently writing.
