Action Steps

Our message is brought to us by a small rental house.  No, not ours, a different one.  The Air BnB residence that Daniel’s family stayed in this week when all of the hotels in town were Sold Out.  (Yes, even mine.)

It’s simple, like so many of the reminders we recieve.  It’s also important, and timely.

be the help we need

The owners of this bungalow are active in their community.  They care about their fellow humans.  I like that in a landlady/landlord.

This message, this call to action, this involvement, it helps us to remember that it doesn’t take huge gestures to make huge progress in positive ways.

Do a small thing, make a large impact.  Change our world for the better.  Reach out.  Smile, connect.  Lend a hand.  Share.  Donate.  Give back.

             Make a difference.

Today’s Sharing:

is really more like Today’s Gratitude.  Thank you family and loved ones, for making my partner’s birthday extremely special this year.  Time together, it is invaluable.

Being, not Doing

We’ve spoken before about counting our blessings and living in the moment.  The entire concept of intention has been on my mind lately.

Which means it connects to where the Universe wants us to focus right now.

Small Gifts

My days off from the “day” job feel rare and rushed.  We are still living partly out of boxes, re-buying shit we can’t find here in the new place.  While at the same time discovering items we thought were lost forever.  It’s very roller coaster-y.

But also, it is fulfilling in tiny and unexpected ways. Projects and tasks DO get accomplished.  It is gratifying to see how far we’ve come, enjoyable to sit and merely BE in this space.

It is a simple kind of peace, in a wee abode we do not own.

I am actively practicing my In The Moment appreciation; pointedly, mindfully.  Daily I gather around me the Gratitude Attitude and say my Thank Yous outloud.  It is intentional, and it is healing.

In the place where our new altar will (eventually) be this is reflected perfectly by our visiting messenger.

“Mouse   ~

Be persistent and inclusive and all obstacles will be overcome.

Mouse is tiny and gentle but no shell is so hard that she cannot reach the delicious center within, and no obstacle so tough that it cannot be overcome.

As your guide Mouse counsels persistence so you, too, may break through the barriers which block success.

Vulnerable to many, she must scrutinize and look beyond the obvious to the pattern within and assess the hidden agenda of others.

Emulate Mouse, and your path through life will be safe indeed.”

Today’s Sharing:

is to report on my office situation.

The update is, I now have a desk.  On a freshly cleaned rug, over beautiful (probably 70 plus year old) hardwood floors.

We couldn’t find (nor afford) an antique Victorian style for me to pull my chair up to, but this one will do.  For now.

             Progress.  It is technically happening.

(Additionally, there’s a ceiling fan in this room, it is more delightful than I ever could have imagined.  I mean, moving air!)

In the business of marketing, where their job is to sell us more crap than we actually need, they speak of sales cycles.  There are times of the year when people really don’t want to go out and buy.  In fact, we’d rather not leave the damn house at all.

It’s more natural for us (as animals) to hunker down as the days grow darker and shorter.  Fall is a time for gathering the harvest, but winter months are for staying inside.

I’ve been thinking about that hibernation tendency a lot lately.  Dan and I are attending yoga classes twice a week now (one on land, one in the water).  It is truly the most beautiful and empowering hour of that day.

The very possibility of those types of calm, inwardly reflective moments is what the Universe wants to reminds us of.

When we are focused and alert, we are better suited for receiving our messages.  When we turn within, either in prayer or meditation or yoga or simply a quiet, still few minutes which we grab for ourselves, we are nourishing the soul.

We are giving ourselves the ultimate gift.  We are involved in Self-Care on the highest level.  And we all know where that leads, out and around and rippling off into the rest of our lives.  Benefiting not just us, but every person we care about.

The other thing we know about Self-Care and positively focused intention, is that they provide results.  Like this, for example.  Of all the cards, in all the decks, our draw right now couldn’t be more perfectly validating if I’d sat down for endless hours and manually tried to FIND one better suited.

“Proceeding Softly  ~

‘My inner power grows in moments of quietude.’

Card meaning:

Go forward, slowly and gently.  Stop to smell the daisies and enjoy the view.  Love and appreciate what is here now.

The Universe wants you to know:

When you take your time and go slowly, new perceptions blossom that you can’t see if you’re moving fast.  Step out of the rapid pace of everyday life, and step into the majesty of stillness.

Resist the impulse to go ahead with your first conditioned response, and tune in to your deep instinctual intuition.  Power is born when you relax into the present moment.

Questions to ask yourself:

What is the underlying wisdom for me regarding being cautious?  Is there an area of my life where I should slow down?  Should I view a certain person or situation in my life with caution?

My inner power grows in moments of quietude.”

Gateway Oracle Cards by Denise Linn

Today’s Gratitude:

is to say Thank You for whoever it was that protected Daniel last night, in the rain and dark, when he ended up over the handlebars of his bike.  No one else was involved, he suffered only minor injuries, and will be fine.  (The bicycle is also perfectly fine.  The gloves, we had to replace.)

It just could have been much worse, so thanks, to those who kept him safe, and to him, for his quick instincts and self-preservation skills.  (That black eye is impressive, though.)

Exits, Examinations, and Exacting Circumstances

One of the ways we practice Self-Care is to set positive intentions.  To seek out and find those timeless spots in our lives, in our journey, in our day-to-day.  This is also an exercise that I’m becoming more familiar with in my own (personal) work.

What I was shown this morning is about how to aim this focus even more directly; pointing it back to . . . .

. . . . the smallest of details.

It’s about the “little things” in life.  The minor success.  The quiet, still moments of mindfulness.  The anonymous gifts.

When we get caught up in the “big picture,” we can lose sight of ourselves, and of our power.  That’s, as we were reminded yesterday, “unhealthful and unhelpful.”

The suggestion for right now is to bring our attention in close.  Close to the heart, and close to the home.  See the little bits of joy which are all around.  See the blessings that we may be overlooking.

As our daily draw explains, we’ll need that assurance for what seems to be on the horizon.

oracle cards, sad embrace

“Sad Embrace  ~  45  ~

‘Loss is a part of life.

Let go and allow time to heal you.’

You may be entering into a period where loss is the theme.  Perhaps you’re having to let go of a long-cherished dream.  If so, take heart, for this ending may have been for your highest good.  A better and more powerful dream will be realized in your life if you can accept the loss.

Relationships based on faulty foundations are meant to end at this time.  Disappointment is a form of perception.  If your expectations were not met, a sense of loss arises, along with sadness and grief.

Express these emotions.  Tears are like healing rain that can restore life to a parched inner landscape.  Growth is always assured.

Whatever the loss – however great it is – let go, and experience your feelings so that you may soon see what beauty lies ahead.”

We haven’t had many Contrary flips with this stack.  Today’s came up Direct, but as I was sitting here, it was made clear to me that we needed to see both definitions.

Are you suffering over your suffering?  Do you feel that life is treating you unfairly and that you’ve been robbed or deprived of what you’re entitled to?  Do you long for a love that eludes you, or success that has been bestowed upon others?  Righteous anger and a sense of entitlement lead to a trap of ego.

Your suffering and loss will pass if you let them go.  If you hold on to your perception of unfairness, then you’ll find yourself in its tight grip, unable to breathe freely.

The only solution is to drop your victim stance and embrace the sadness so that it may dissipate naturally in time.

Trials and tribulations build character, which is its own gift.  Find something to be grateful for, and take responsibility for your part in all matters.  However painful it may be to sit with your sadness, remember that you are loved and will not be left adrift forever.

Have faith, for this, too, shall pass.  You are not a victim, only a traveler on a hero’s journey.  It’s okay to be disappointed for now, but know that someday you’ll look back and see great value in this experience.”

The Enchanted Map Oracle Cards by Colette Baron-Reid

Today’s Sharing:

is THIS insightful post from my very own local herb folks.  The authour of this one has A SERIES on the topic, and I’m really looking forward to reading them all.

(Also?  Must acknowledge just how amazing it was that I’d come across this link yesterday, and then we receive this card right now.  So they could appear together, perhaps?  And so they could accompany our Empress as she takes her beloved hospice dog off to the final Good-Bye?  I’m thinkin’ yes, it was one of those gifts we need to be watching out for.)

Spiritually Industrious, Physically Challenged.

We are going to begin today with two things from yesterday’s comments section.  The first is a link Karen B shared with us; the story she remembered about the wolves inside, like the Dueling Dragons.  Don’t know anything about the site, but go here and see the retelling of this one.  Yep, it’s the same concept.  Thanks Betty Bear!

Relating to this, Judie mentioned making herself a reminder that said “Feed the right dragon.”  What a really cool idea.  Like visible affirmations on Post It Notes or messages of positive thinking taped to a mirror, having our brain nudged to get back on the desired track is sometimes all it takes to turn a bad situation around.  Thanks for this clever way of reinforcing our self-improvement projects, JQ!

On our card altar we’ve come around to that triple dose which some of you don’t adore.  Stay with me though, this one is totally worthwhile.

“Past Lives  ~  XVIII  ~  Major Arcana

The hands of existence form the shape of the female genitals, the opening of the cosmic mother.  Revealed within are many images, faces from other times.  While it might be entertaining to fantasize about famous past lives, it is just a distraction.  The real point is to see and understand the karmic patterns in our lives, and their roots in an endless repetitive pattern that traps us in unconscious  behavior.

The two rainbow lizards on either side represent knowing and not-knowing.  They are the guardians of the unconscious, making sure that we are prepared for a vision that might otherwise be shattering.  A glimpse into the eternity of our existence is a gift, and understanding the function of karma in our lives is not something that can be grasped at will.  This is a wake-up call; the events in your life are trying to show you a pattern as ancient as the journey of your own soul.

Participation  ~  4  ~  Fire: Action

Have you ever seen the night going?  Very few people even become aware of things which are happening every day …. In such a beautiful world we are living in small ponds of our own misery ….

Each figure in this mandala holds the right hand up, in an attitude of receiving, and the left hand down, in an attitude of giving.  The whole circle creates a tremendous energy field that takes on the shape of the double dorje, the Tibetan symbol for the thunderbolt …

You have an opportunity to participate with others now to make your contributions to creating something greater and more beautiful than each of you could manage alone.  Your participation will not only nourish you, but will also contribute something precious to the whole.

Intensity  ~  Knight of Fire  ~  Mastery of Action

The figure in this card has taken on the shape of an arrow, moving with the single-pointed focus of one who knows precisely where he is going.  He is moving so fast that he has become almost pure energy.  But his intensity should not be mistaken for the manic energy that makes people drive their car at top speed to get from Point A to Point B.   That kind of intensity belongs to the horizontal world of space and time.  The intensity represented by the Knight of Fire belongs to the vertical world of the present moment – a recognition that now is the only moment there is, and here is the only space.

When you act with the intensity of the Knight of Fire it is likely to create ripples in the waters around you.  Some will feel uplifted and refreshed by your presence, others may feel threatened or annoyed.  But the opinions of others matter little; nothing can hold you back right now.”

The first card has a message that I absolutely agree with, that of living all of our embodiments to release old patterns and move forward in our journey to be a more evolved soul, eventually becoming one with the Universe.  The second card is cool because it is validation of our acts of mindfulness, and the hard work we are doing in that direction.

While the last message is simply a positive reminder to keep our focus.  Since many of us are going through a fresh cycle or a life change right now, whether these are physical or emotional or purely situational, this draw says that we are on the right path.  Be intentional with what we’re working on, and give it our all.  Use our past lessons and this current energy to guide us, in our onward and upward spiral.  All the while, gaining knowledge and happiness, with this loving and  precise focus.

Aim at our goals, and we are better able to reach them.  Just don’t forget, we need to also pay attention to all of the entertaining and enlightening sights along our route.

Osho Zen Tarot

Interesting addition to that first card, in case you feel like going further with this one.  Here is a quick over-view of the traditional meaning and definition of what is usually The Moon in standard decks.

Quick note on my own progress.  It’s been up and down, with not much improvement.  Biking every day but not doing well on the weight-loss front.  I refuse to get discouraged, instead I’m being stubborn.  (Cuz THAT worked so fucking well the first 50 years.)  But I’m telling you honestly, I’m not giving up, just reporting in.  Sadly the report sucks at this particular moment.

(Even though I thought the reading was encouraging.  So, good news/bad news sort of deal.  Upside?  The pool was fabulous yesterday and we just got this summer’s schedule, I’m on the calendar two days a week, not sharing water with any other activity.  There will be a maintenance closure in August, but only for two weeks.)

LateNight Link:

I’ve added back Julie Jackson’s Subversive Cross Stitch site, specifically her blog.  She recently did a big upgrade but I haven’t had enough minutes yet to spend any time over there.  This is more for me than anyone else.  But, feel free to pop over and see what she’s got going on.

LaterNight Daily Dog:

Three happy dogs.

She just checked in!  It WAS a busy day in groomer’s world.  But she came through.  Thanks so much, Empress!
