Care-Taking, on-going

There are some messages which need to be repeated.  And then, repeated again.  With a slightly different slant?  We can only hope.

This morning I heard words, then saw scenes.  Both methods were sharing with me what would help us the most, and both methods were bright but gentle.  Nothing harsh (in itself, part of the entire reminder).

Taking Care,

some more.

A predominant attitude of comfort is what’s called for right now.  We, our loved ones, and the planet* must live with love and ease.

*Happy Beltane!

Another way to look at this one today is to see it through the eyes of our daily draw.  They are both Kings, but are going about this journey (and its lessons) in very different ways.

“Abundance  ~  King Of Rainbows  ~  Mastery Of The Physical

You have to be whole: rich in the body, rich in science, rich in meditation, rich in consciousness.  Only a whole person is a holy person.

This Dionysian character is the very picture of a whole man, a ‘Zorba the Buddha’ who can drink wine, dance on the beach and sing in the rain, and at the same time enjoy the depths of understanding and wisdom that belong to the sage.

In one hand he holds a lotus, showing that he respects and contains within himself the grace of the feminine.  His exposed chest (an open heart) and relaxed belly show that he is at home with his masculinity as well, utterly self-contained.

The four elements fo earth, fire, water, and sky all conjunct at the King of Rainbows who sits atop the book of the wisdom of life.

If you are a woman, the King of Rainbows brings the support of your own male energies into your life, a union with the soulmate within.  For a man, this card represents a time of breaking through the conventional male stereotypes and allowing the fullness of the whole human being to shine forth.”

For me, this is more about a PERSON, more a ruling individual than a man or woman, because the balance of male/female is so aligned.  I see no need for gender here, merely human-ness.

Also, I’m not addressing the next card’s Contrary direction, it felt more as thought they were being opposed to each other, rather than to us.

“Control  ~  King Of Clouds  ~  Mastery Of Mind (reversed)

There is a time and a place for control, but if we put it in charge of our lives we end up totally rigid.   The figure is encased in the angels of pyramid shapes that surround him.  Light glitters and glints off his shiny surfaces, but does not penetrate.

It’s as if he is almost mummified inside this structure he’s built up around himself.  His fists are clenched, and his stare is blank, almost blind.  The lower part of his body beneath the table is a knife point, a cutting edge that divides and separates.  His world is ordered and perfect, but it is not alive – he cannot allow any spontaneity or vulnerability to enter it.

The image of the King of Clouds reminds us to take a deep breath, loosen our neckties, and take it easy.  If mistakes happen, it’s okay.  If things get a little out of hand, it’s probably just what the doctor ordered.

There is much, much more to life than being ‘on top of things’.”

Perspective is everything.  As long as we keep the main point in our sights.  As we heard yesterday, lovefulness is the key.  So, we are reminded to take care, be human, and find joy in all aspects of our selves, and others.

is this regal creature we spotted the other day.

Llama! (Woven into a blanket.)

Llama!
(Woven into a blanket.)

Of course, I immediately texted the phone photo to J.D.  Because, llama!

Densely Buoyant.

My day wandered and wavered away into directions that I was not expecting.  There were moments of heaviness  as well as times of loosely floating sensations.   I felt all of the Pentacle points, while at the same time being fully aware of my radio-ness.

This “morning” I woke up to a gift.  It was a message from a far away friend.  She generously allowed me to share her view.  What I did not know was how prophetic that phone photo would turn out to be.

pond picture

… just made me happy to have an angel reminder,
she said.

It is a small white feather floating on the surface of a pond amid water plants and tree greenery reflections.  It’s vital that whenever we are made aware of messages like this we need to listen, tune in and be open.

When I went into the card altar room later and flipped over our daily draw it was obvious that the Universe had something (more) to say.

“Friendliness  ~  2  ~  Water: Emotions  (reversed)

First meditate, be blissful, then much love will follow….

Understanding  ~  Page Of Water

Move with the sweetness and gentleness of this time.  Feel the fluttering within.  Spread your wings and be free.”

Initially these seem to be conflicting messages, but they truly tell a story of progress being made, albeit a slow and challenging tale.

The contrary first card speaks of balance, even upside-down (Twos are like that).  As a Cup, it is emotional.  In this case there are strong wobbly feelings that could so easily falter and tumble off into neediness.  Or, sliding the other direction, manifesting that proverbial cold-shoulder.

When we Understand our inner feelings, we are better able to manage them, and to deal with those around us, applying that Friendliness, to our loved ones, our co-workers, any associates or service people we happen to be interacting with.  But if we turn away from “the grace of others” there is potential to lapse into fear.  And THAT we know is never good.

What we need to learn from this pair is to be open-hearted, even if it might sting once in a while, it’s worth it.  No wallowing and no clinging.  No drama and no martyring.  Simply be our own loving and honest selves.  Free in our emotions, while staying true and strong.

Today’s Mileage:

was a trip downtown and back for a library drop-off and pick up, as well as a brief yoga session at the gym, 8.884, with an average speed of 10.1 MPH in 52 minutes and 29 seconds.

eugene library bike parking

Bike parking for those of us going in to get our books.

She and I were pedaling in the same direction, I arrived slightly before her, so while she was inside, I took this picture.  The shade makes it hard to tell, but believe me, in person, this is a damn fine ride.

Today’s Kitchen Adventures:

happened while I was gone.

golden cauliflower and broccoli

Super delicious, hot or cold
(but better on the warm side)

Tossed in sesame and olive oil, with a sprinkle of shredded Italian cheeses and some fennel, Dan barely took the raw off of our cauliflower and broccoli in his big iron skillet.  Yeah, I sort of invented this “recipe” (or maybe I just copied the idea from how we now do our Brussels Sprouts).

Yesterday’s Baking:

ended up being a lesson in Zen Balance for me.

odd cookie baking

Every tray-full came out different from the one before it.

Not once did I lose my cool.  Rolling with inconveniences seems to be a new skill I MIGHT have acquired.  Only time will tell.

is a present sent to me by my Seattle girl.  (Thanks again Han!)

peacocks in Seattle

She wanted to be sure we noticed that plumage.
How could you NOT?!

This is Mr Peabody, he lives near one of her new bosses and his family.  He told her, “[he] showed up in our neighborhood a year ago.  This is him on our deck…. Weird and fun!”

The guy behind them, who has chickens, is picking up a peahen this weekend.  I can’t wait for updates.   And peachicks!

Gutter Ice.

Tonight there will be even MORE non-single-topic-ness than usual around here, but I could only come up with a one dimensional title (all of my creativity went other places).  I saw frozen water at the ends of driveways today as I pedaled around the neighborhood.  It got down to 25 the other night.  My breath was visible this afternoon.  There was ice in the gutters.  Ice!

On the other hand, my wee self elf doesn’t get NEARLY as sweaty on rides or walks when the weather is this cold.  Of course, it does take over an hour to thaw out my ass once I’ve gotten back indoors.  But ya know, it is the price we pay for getting out there and moving about.

Here is one outstanding way to warm up though.  Wanna come by and borrow him?

Max!  This is him showing you how exhausting it is being Nana’s helper.  He assisted in the folding of Emmy’s laundry, he was right there, at the ready, as I mended on the sewing machine and rotary cut strips for a project Dan is working on (he was on guard from behind his little door gate though, I adore my Maximum Dog, but I am NOT going to let him into my sewing room ANY more), and he sat in my lap while I read the paper with a towel on my head.  Really, he was indispensable.

Daniel and Empress were out doing some couponing and exploring the For Rent places he and I noticed on yesterday’s wander.  She may be moving again soon, and there certainly is no reason why her adorable family can’t live near by.  Max and I have decided this is a brilliant plan.

The second half of our day consisted of gathering food for the coming week.  I’ve set aside my messed up mind issues for right now, and am just looking at keeping the two of us fed.  As it turns out, I accidentally discovered a fabulous snack.  It’s like a salad, but sorta not.

This is now my new favorite.  I’ve already had more than one bowl.  As you all know very well, I am NOT a person how cooks or enjoys preparing food.  However, I do like new ideas, and this one just evolved.  It began when I pestered Barb into sharing her Grape Salad recipe with me, and then I changed it.  It will never be the same thing twice.

I started with grapes, but I didn’t slice them as was recommended (I also didn’t really dry them well either).  Then I added some craisins (we had blueberry and cherry in the cupboard, Dan puts them in oatmeal for me, along with regular raisins).  The original suggestion was whipped cream, but I substituted yogurt, because Em had brought us several small containers she’d scored in one of her recent coupon runs.  This time I had mixed berry on hand, so that was the “dressing” portion.  Then I tossed in some chopped walnuts.  Simply because I could.

(Also, you should know that I adore Waldorf Salads, and Daniel does not.  This was sort of my base brainstorm of where I was trying to take the grapes, only in a way that he would like.)

Not too many years ago there was an ad campaign which featured a yogurt brand, their promotion was about sprinkling granola on top, and this was supposed to be a nutritious and filling snack.  I tried it for a while, and it wasn’t bad.  But I’ve since moved on.  Whenever there is a new combination of foods I enjoy, I am all over it.  Not sure how long this obsession will last, but I foresee endless possibilities in my future.

We returned to our controversial albeit fascinating Osho Zen deck today.  And I did no more than flip, photo, and transfer.  This will be as much a surprise for me as it is for you guys.

“Ripeness  ~  9 of Rainbows  ~  The Physical  ~

Only if your meditation has brought you to a light that shines in every night will even death not be a death to you but a door to the divine… When this card appears in a reading it indicates that you are ready to share your inner riches… The fruit is always ripe and the time is always the right time…

Possibilities  ~  2 of Fire  ~  Action  ~

Mind can accept any boundary anywhere… This card indicates that you are at a point where a world of possibilities is open to you.  Because you have grown more loving towards yourself, more self-contained, you can work easily with others.  Because you are relaxed and at ease, you can recognize possibilities as they present themselves, sometimes even before others can see them.  Because you are in tune with your own nature, you understand that existence is providing you with exactly what you need…

Letting Go  (reversed)  ~  8 of Water  ~  Emotion  ~

In existence there is nobody who is superior and nobody who is inferior.  The blade of grass and the great star are absolutely equal… But man wants to be higher than others, he wants to conquer nature, hence he has to fight continuously… something is finished, something is completing… it is time to let go… something greater is awaiting you… go with it, it represents liberation.”

See this group of illustrations?  THIS is what drew me here.  I love the richness that this trio shows.  And today, I really like the way we’ve touched on three of the five elements/suits.

Our message is a freeing one, and so welcome too.  Due to this “Letting Go” sign being upside down I feel that we are not quite there yet.  We are close, mere moments away.  Interesting, as well, is the imagery of the falling fruit and the dropping water, on either side of the eagle’s eye view.  We are seeing what we need to work on, with the best vantage point available (which means we are not alone but being guided through this transition) and we are just this close to making that next step a reality.

Any second now our life will click in to the next phase, turn that page on to the next chapter.  As we near this, keep in mind that we never walk alone, and that, as the bumper sticker says Everything IS in Divine Order, we simply need to SEE it that way.  The amount of possibilities for us now is endless, all we need to do is focus on them.
