One of the parts of living in these bodies that can be difficult is the side-by-side.  Our culture is obsessed with competition and comparison.

In its proper time and place, that’s fine.  In our psyche, that’s soul harming.  That’s dangerous, and that’s the opposite of lovingkindness.

We feel bad if we’re not “as good” or “as thin” or “as rich” as the person over there, or our neighbors over here, or those famous people out somewhere.  The truth is, everyone we’re comparing ourselves to is doing the same damn thing.

Letting go is giving back.

When we release that painful (unsatisfied and wanting) mindset, when we let go of that impossible falsehood, we’re freeing ourselves.  And we’re free to do what’s really valuable.

We’re freeing up our energy to help others.  Because, as we’ve discussed before, the best cure for a downward spiral is an uplifting step out of our own head.

Taking ourselves out of that hurtful cycle, physically and mentally, is a gift for everyone.  Here’s what was suggested to me this morning, begin by making a donation of time, clothing, food, or money.  To whatever organization (or family, or individual person, or group) which is right for you.

There.  We’ve taken the first step.  And that, as we all know, is the best way to start.

As is the message we’re being handed on our card altar right now.  Still within the regular rotation, we’ve come around to this yet-to-miss-the-mark, fast-becoming-one-of-my-all-time-favorite stacks.

“Listening with Your Heart  ~

‘I trust the messages I receive from my heart.’

Card Meaning:

The heart knows what the mind cannot uncover.  Trust the messages you receive from your heart.  Angels and guides are communicating with you.  In sweet, soft stillness, listen to their gentle whispers.

The Universe Wants you to know:

If you are facing a decision and your mind says one thing but your heart says another, follow the dictates of  your heart and you’ll be on the right path.

If  you get a nudge to speak to someone or go in a particular direction, don’t hesitate.  Follow this guidance.  Whenever you feel challenged and you don’t know where to turn, quiet your mind and listen with your heart.

The correct path will appear, for Spirit wants to speak to you.  There’s a message for you right now.  Watch for signs, and the message will unfold effortlessly.

Questions to ask yourself:

What or whom do I need to listen to?  Is there an area of my life in which I need to listen to my heart rather than my mind?  If I was aware of a secret message from Spirit right now, what would it be?

I trust the messages I receive from my heart.”

is this duo of views from my dinner tonight.

I have no idea who those people are.
I have no idea who those people are.

This is a local, city-owned pool, near the bike path which takes me home on my out-and-about erranding rides.  I’m almost never on this side of the fence.

The food tables are beyond that yellow slide.

My orthodontist’s office was holding a patient appreciation party.  With prizes and pizza and treats.  Oh, you didn’t know that I have an orthodontist?  Right, well I do.  Braces will be going on to my teeth some time in the late fall.

There will be photos, I promise.  Right now all I have is a bite-plate which makes me lisp.  You can’t see it, but you can certainly hear it, when it’s in my mouth.  Which is always.

(And by always, I mean except when I take it out and nearly lose it because Dan flings the paper napkin it was wrapped in across the restaurant.)

  1. OMG. I laughed so hard. The ubiquitous “I wrapped it in a napkin and it got thrown away” set me off. I’m glad you know where it landed. I think there is a special spot in the local landfills where dental bits go to party.

“…the best cure for a downward spiral is an uplifting step out of our own head.” Definitely need to keep this reminder.

So far, it hasn’t gotten TOO far away from us…….
