Full Moon, Full House, Full Heart

About an hour ago (as I write this) was the full moon, 6:37 p.m. (my time).  Just letting you know, in case things get wild, there could be good reasons for it.  The mythology around this phenomenon is actually not.  Not myth, so much of what we are told really has basis in fact.  Ask anyone who has ever worked in a hospital emergency department, anyone who wears a badge on his/her shirt, anyone who has ever sold food in an all night venue, it gets weird out.  We are all made up of so much water that we truly do cycle as the ocean tides do.  And what causes the tides?  The phases of the moon of course.  Unless you are expending that energy, in ritual or conscious channelling, it’s got to go somewhere.  This is a Universal Truth, and we all need to be aware of it.

The Hurricane blew into town last night, just before midnight.  She and Adam and Indiana Sunshine drove down from Seattle and arrived safely.  Then her sister showed up, with Max and Graham in tow.  They had cereal and cookies and some string cheese.  Tomorrow all three kids will be in attendance for The Event.  Having everyone home is wonderful.

Here’s a picture of some of the stuff Daniel has been making for me.    Remember last year when I dragged him to the miniature club meeting and he made me that lamp?  And those are the books I covered, in his wee book shelf.      He sizes down real furniture plans and then makes them small.  These are all one twelfth gauge.

Graham and I did the styling.  Ain’t we clever?  (Shut up, we know we have no class, but we try okay.  We try.)   Sorry I forgot to put the dime in there to give you perspective.  That afghan and fern are someplace else here, with the coin.  (Hit miniatures in that tag thingie we call Threads, you’ll see them.)

The reason I showed you those is because we set them out on the mantel that Karen cleaned, thank you Karen, for all the party guests to enjoy.  Since you can’t all be here, I thought I’d share some of our fabulous progress.  Like a super clean bathroom with a new curtain I made in about two seconds.  (I didn’t hem it at all, just turned one end over and made a sleeve for the rod.  Why yes, half-assed is perfectly good enough.)

Our card for today made me laugh when I saw it this afternoon.       ” Family Harmony  ~  Your relationships with family members, by any special bond, are healing now.  As you hold loving thoughts and feelings about the souls involved (including yourself), you experience genuine harmony within.

Every person in your life is affected by your beliefs and expectations, including family members.  By drawing this card, you are counseled to hold positive and loving thoughts about anyone who seems to have irritated or hurt you.  The more loving energy you send each person, the more love will be directed back to you.

Have patience, you are beginning to feel great healing occurring in your relationships.  The fairies ask you to think of three reasons why you are grateful for each member of your family or extended family or family of friends.  If one person seems to particularly frustrate you, think of five reasons why that person is worthy of love.  Send blessings and prayers, your relationships will show immediate signs of improvement.

Spend time surrounded by those you love now.  Share in that bond of caring and honesty.  Allow healing in, and send healing thoughts to those around you.

Affirmation:  I see the goodness within each member of my family.  My family life is harmonious and filled with love and joy.

Tomorrow I will need to sneak away from the party to get my post up, so if I’m slightly tardy, blame the guests.

Personal message to Ally: ohmygawd, bring whatever you feel comfortable with, all of it sounds fantastic.

Me and Boycotts, Plus The Tuesday Tour.

I’ve said this before, but it’s worth repeating: vote with your dollar.  Buy local and shop independent when ever you can.  I have never set foot in a Wal-Mart (gawd it just irritates me even typing that word) and I never will.  Home Depot has never seen a dime of our money and never will.  I only enter big brand name book stores after I have exhausted every independent book/stationery shop within a 35 mile radius (I’d expand that if my Wee Walnut could do freeways).  If I can get it here in town, by an actual live person who runs their own company, I will.

Today we went on some errands.  One of those destinations was a local home improvement place called Jerry’s.  (Started by a real live human, named Jerry.)  We bought the clear covering for our Winchester Mystery Deck project in the back yard.  And a gate latch for the front yard (which does not actually have gates yet, but Daniel will have more days off soon, and he will build them, to go with the front yard deck which is quickly becoming the Winchester Mystery Deck Deux).  See?  Voted with our dollars.

I saw a seemingly homeless guy on a bicycle with a pink VooDoo donut box in the front basket.  I have GOT to get down there.  When the line is not around the Ken Kesey Plaza block.  Also!  Scary Running Lady!  Wow, haven’t spotted her in ages.  She looked just like she always does, color co-ordinated, bleached within an inch of her life, and frighteningly intense.  Go Scary Running Lady!  Go!

   Foreign plates du jour:

~California and Washington, natch

~Ohio (but a different color than we normally spot, so it took us a bit to get close enough and read that this was really it)

~Nevada (the same car, twice, both times in Dan’s way)

~Colorado (this may have to be listed under “regulars” here pretty soon, I keep seeing them so often now)

~Michigan

~One Other (but I forgot to write it down, so it fell out of my head, I will take requests and we can just make it up if you want).

Replies:

Roka, thanks.  Making these teeny tiny projects is really fun.  I don’t usually need any special glasses to see them, but sometimes I do use the “readers” or “old lady eyes” I picked up a few years ago when I started doing super small cross stitch and needle point (like 40 to 50 plus stitches to the inch, there are some pictures of a pillow and rug I think, back a few months here).

Tracy, you got to spot things in your area too!  (Doesn’t matter if it was a few towns over, still counts.)  Yipee for the bagpiper!  How cool is that?!  A guy in a kilt, definitely equals a guy with Steve Perry hair.  I like that there was also a newsvan at the church, adds to our mystery of what the hell was going on there scenario.  Yes, Dear One, we are oh so comfy here in JulieLand.  Sadly we are also a much smaller population than that other place you refered to.  How do we get more fans?  Wouldn’t others adore hanging out with this awesome fun group?  And yeah, I did like the irony of our current book discussion and then I covered books and photographed them on a wee table Dan and I had put together.

Kristin, okay gotcha.  No mental notes.  Because ya know, I was going to be all in awe of your fabulous brain power.  Whew, that was a close one.  Of course you suffer from “organizational paranoia” and over-calendar your self-  you are a Virgo!  I have about three, maybe more like four, time-keepers (just ask the kids, it’s scary come December when I have to replace them all): spiral weekly planner that sits on the kitchen table, book-bound daily planner that is in the outside office, monthly wall calendar that is called “The Busy Family” and features very nice animal family photos, pocket calendar in my purse, calendar feature in my phone (but I don’t know how to add events so that’s just for quick reference of what-the-hell-day-is-it), wall calendar in the outside office (usually featuring island paradise scenes or porches), wall calender in the hall upstairs (this time we have majestic castles around the world, oh wait, we had that last year too), and a hanging wall calendar downstairs in the family room (right now it’s tree houses, but it has been guitars, out houses, and light houses in the past).  Uh, that’s more than four isn’t it?  Damn.  Oh, “mouse house” I’ll come back to that, long story.

Hanny!  No flickr account yet, my skills are far too remedial.  And yeah, didn’t the little paper table come in handy?  And you laughed at me when we made it!  Also, ohmygawd yay, for (as Tracy said) your name up in lights!  I am still kind of in shock over this.  I mean come on, I invented that freaking name!

Miniaturing Monday Plus More.

I had to attend our miniature club meeting without my assistant, he got a better offer.  (The provision was always that he’d go with me, as long as there wasn’t a ball game on.)  We covered books.

I know, the color is horrid, I have GOT to get better at this photography thing.  The table is made out of paper (by me) over a drink cup.  The lamp is made from beads (by Daniel) and it does light up.  Sadly, we needed the battery for something else a while back and I couldn’t find it for this picture.

I just learned that during the height of prohibition Al Capone was making (the current equivalent) of $1,500 a minute!  I want that kind of income.  But ya know, not with anyone dying.  Or contracting a disease.  Or getting jailed for tax evasion.

My oldest daughter’s name is now a domain.  Yes, that’s right, if you type in HannaBrooksOlsen you will find a dot com.  Of her.  (If this isn’t up yet, it will be soon.)  No problem with catching me off guard Babe.  This is pretty damn cool.  (Also, great Twitter link of that Seattle fire photo.)

Yes Kristin it is wonderful to see Tracy back over here in JulieLand.   And I love how all three of us NEED to handle our reading materials.  Books are amazing, and special, and no technology is ever going to change that.  Also, nicely done about your car upgrade, you should be good for another 40 years!  VW’s rock.  You are taking mental notes?  And when exactly will you be down here in River City?  To observe our specific oddness?  Any time soon?

Tracy, I bet now that you are making a point of looking around for things of interest you will find your own Steve Perry guy.  Remember the Itchy Man?  Keep looking!!!  You never know, maybe you will even see someone with a Kitty purse.

Salads this time.

The miniature group meets the first Monday of every month.  This is what we made tonight (okay, mostly Daniel made, I was slightly tardy due to my swimmy/exercisey class).

The end of one chapter, beginning of another.

The quilt shop is no more.  This job is now history (or, resume fodder).  Amanda will fly home tomorrow.  I now own: one long cutting table, five padded folding chairs, five wooden fruit crate-type boxes, and a white stacked laminate shelving unit.  Empress, the white dealie is for you, also a chair and a box (or two).  Hurricane, you also need a box, but you said you don’t need a chair.  Son?  Need quilt shop furniture?

Went to my second miniature club meeting.  We made Mardi Gras masks.  Little, teeny, tiny masks.  Next month we make molded ones with painted faces.  And the first weekend of October there is going to be a huge show in Portland.  Anyone want to go with me???
