Paying Attention.

I would like to begin today’s meanderings, and my view of the world around me, with an apology.  I put up a late night update recently because I was so excited that some folks in Missouri were not bashing their LGBT students, they were reaching out to help them.  In the end it kind of looked like I was trying to drum up donations for a school I couldn’t even locate on a map if you pointed my finger for me.  Sorry if that message was misconstrued.  Just needed to address this issue, and I will need to address it until children are no longer killing themselves.  You are all perfectly capable of clicking on the Dan Savage link and seeing the news there yourselves, so I will try and restrain myself (no promises though, I’m fairly militant where gay rights/human rights are concerned, especially when those rights spill over into the lives of kids).

Second public service announcement of the day: it has also been brought to my attention that not everyone knows how to pronounce my new website name.  (If you have been reading here for any length of time you are aware of my deficiencies, and how I am unable to link back to previous posts, so go poke around in the History Quilt and find the ones about our new domain and my spirit guide.)  Ready for the refresher course?  UrthaLun, just like Earth and Moon, as in Earth-uh Loon.  (The loon part makes my adult children laugh, pretty much every time.)

Now, on with the erranding events du jour.  My son was not feeling well today, and since I was going to be downtown ANYway,  I told him I’d pick up his laundry.  I also picked up a sammich for him (and his father, and me, but more about that later).  J.D. lives in a super cool and way historic building.

It was built in 1902 and much of the old parts have been kept, even after they added two more stories to the top (in around the 1930′s I think).    These stairs are kind of leaning to one side, which is sort of fun, but then, I’m a history geek.

They have something called a Mezzanine level, and we haven’t really figured out why, but this picture was taken from there, looking down into the lobby.

It probably has to do with the fact that these floors were originally offices.  When they converted them to apartments they left many of the doors in place, and the fun windows on top, even though they don’t actually lead inside anymore.  This one does.

When I take his clean clothes back tonight, I’ll be delivering his quilt too.  I finally finished the cover.  Perfectly half-assed, just the way we all expected it to turn out.

This is what I brought home for myself.  Ya know, just a few snacks.    I raided the day-old basket of the coffee cart in front of our library (I told you had to be downtown), and took my kid a min-loaf of banana bread.  These cupcakes were calling to me, I couldn’t very well leave them there.  All alone.  And sad.

In our travels around the card altar we have returned to Doreen’s Archangel Oracle Deck, and I think this one will be beneficial to us all.

“Claircognizance  ~  Archangel Uriel:  Pay attention to thoughts and ideas that come to you, as they are answered prayers.

You have prayed and asked for answers, and they have come to you in the form of repetitive thoughts telling you to take steps and make changes.  Don’t discount your thoughts, or think they are just dreams or common knowledge.  Your thoughts are tuned to high frequencies right now, and are trustworthy inspirations.  All great inventions, new businesses, and inspired teachings stem from this same Universal source of wisdom.  You are tapped in to that Divine wisdom right now, and it is important to notice and record your thoughts.  Then act upon these answers!”

Lovely Weather for Erranding, and Perception.

My fingers get better every time I wake up.  Whew!  I love that blue stuff.  (But the lavender oil was crucial too.)  Went to the library today. We are having a great summer-isn’t-quite-over type of fall, and that makes me happy.  So not ready for our annual monsoons.  I picked up my son’s laundry (which I have promised to do until the day I drop dead) and swung by a quilt shop for their second anniversay party sale, and a treat to take home.  These are very small, and I’ve already eaten one.  Nice, perfectly nice.  Nothing to write home about, but they were free.  And they had frosting so, win win.  (Well crap.  I just realized that I forgot to take a picture of the gorgeous linen blend fabric I bought, on sale.  Tomorrow I guess.)

I also took Empress a piece of pizza because it’s Saturday Market day, and I can’t just drive past when the weather is this pleasant.   Then I went home and started reading the book I picked up.  I had originally requested it for my mother (who I just mentioned in the comments section).  She and I really like Sylvia Browne, and I’ve talked about her here before.  This is a new one called Psychic Healing and I was hoping it would help my mom with her current issues (ulcerative colitis, thanks again Becky for the info).  But as I was reading it this afternoon I came across a sentence that I HAD to share with you all.  Focus yourself outward with an inward awareness of being, and have faith in your own strength of will and your mind’s ability and power.  Pretty deep huh?!   Who couldn’t get some healing from that?  I am going to print it up later and carry it around with me as a reminder.  If it’s not too long I may tweet it too.  (I’ll probably end up buying this book, but if you are interested in seeing what she has to say, ask for it at your own library, won’t cost anything, and it might be just what someone in your life needs.)

We are back to the mysterious and fascinating Celtic Shaman’s Pack in our tour around the card altar.

“The Lady of the Moon and Stars  ~  Arianrhod  ~ Perception  ~  A beautiful and powerful star-crowned woman with hands raised in blessing.  At her breast is a circular shape like the moon.  Within the circle is a sea of stars.  Energy pours from her hands and is caught and balanced around her.

Through the mysteries of the moon and stars we have always learned to appreciate the influence of these heavenly bodies on our lives.  They have the power to enhance our perceptions of the cosmos and our own place within it.  They have also, the qualities we are most in need of in our own time; timelessness, immutability, the endless cycling of life itself.  The Lady of the Moon and Stars holds within her all of these qualities and bestows them where they are most appreciated and best used.

Journey:  travel along a shimmering set of stairs which rises from the earth and reaches toward the starry heavens.  At the top you find a hall of glimmering crystal where you walk among the pillars carved with countless patterns of constellations known and unknown.

At the end of the hall sits Arianrhod in a chair of crystal.  As you approach she places a finger to her lips and gestures for you to listen.  There comes to you the sound of a song, so far off at first that you can scarcely hear it.  Gradually however, it becomes clearer.  One moment it seems like the song of a thousand different birds, at another like a great chorus of voices, singing in words you cannot fully fathom.  But as you listen you begin to hear words and phrases which slowly build into a pattern.  The song is for you alone and it brings with it answers of a direct and powerful kind.  Nothing is hidden from the Lady of the Moon and Stars and her words can be brutally honest but always for your higher good.

Wait for the song to end and if you are in need of clarification, take this opportunity to ask.  When you return to the mundane world, take note of all that you can remember of what you were told.  You are free to visit here anytime to gain more help.  For she is wise and true and generous with her assistance.”

Random Tuesday Round-up.

Yes, of course I am aware that it is Wednesday,  but I am stealing borrowing this heading and idea from Jen, and this has a nicer tone.  She is now a new link, along with Stormy, over there under the heading of Important Things.  Next week when my Hurricane is home I’m thinking we may need to do some blog house-keeping, or at least some re-arranging.  That list is getting a tad cumbersome, so maybe we’ll break it down a bit.   I really want this place to be easy for navigation.  Also there are a few sites I’d like to have handy, just for my wee self elf.  (Like Cake Wrecks!)

Last year I broke one of my toes, again.   (I can’t seem to get that post up as a link, but it’s called “Lights on No One Home” and it’s in the History Quilt, posted April 18.)  I had to cut the ring off while Daniel was out of town.  (Go read it, I’ll wait.)

For one of my birthday gifts, J.D. got me a new one at the fair.  Thanks Babe. Here are some more things we saw this weekend.  There were several water features.  I love water features.  And wouldn’t this look lovely on our new deck?  A Tiki Hut goes with any decor!  You all know how I feel about cakes, or rather, the frosting that covers cakes.  This last photo brings it all together, palm trees-cakes-and water.  Bliss.

Yesterday I went to the dentist to have my broken molar dealt with.  Wanna know what time my hurty tooth appointment was?  2:30.   Seriously.

I also stopped at the library.  Three of my favorite authors:  Charlaine Harris, Mary Roach, and Jennifer Crusie.  I’ll be VERY busy the next few days, don’t call.

One more thing, then we must get on with our card of the day.  This morning at 3:30 a.m. my time was the Dark Moon.  Remember, we use this aspect for recycling.  Toss anything you need to get rid of, or need to have transformed, in that big black hole.  State your intentions very specifically, tell Mother Moon what you want it to come out the other side as.

We are back to our Animal Medicine Deck.    Skunk   ~   Reputation

”Skunk medicine!  Go ahead and laugh.  This furry little animal has a reputation that contains a great deal of power.  Due to its distinctive behaviour, humans give this tiny, smelly creature a wide berth.  The key word here is respect.

Unlike other predatory animals, Skunk does not threaten your life but threatens your senses.  You know this to be true if you have ever been in the vicinity of its spray.  In observing the habit patterns of Skunk, it is easy to notice the playfulness and nonchalance of its natural behaviours.  The “I dare you” attitude of this four-legged being commands you, as the observer, to respect its space by mere reputation alone.

Skunk is teaching you that by walking your talk and by respecting yourself, you will create a position of strength and honored reputation.  The carriage of your body relates to others what you believe about yourself.  There is no need to bully, aggravate, torment, or overpower others when your sense of self is intact.  As with Skunk, the resonant field of energy around your body is relayed through the senses.  Self-esteem permeates the body’s energy, and it is instantly recognized on the extrasensory level by all around you.

Learn to assert, without ego, what you are.  Respect follows.  Your self-respect attitude will repel those who are not of like mind, and yet will attract those who choose the same pathway.  As the odor of Skunk attracts others of its kind, it repels those who will not respect its space.”

The Big Three Oh, plus Deck Pics, and One Observation.

Okay, I tweeted this, but also I am saying it here.  (Now, I am sure that I’m not the first to make this observation, so if someone else has said it, like all over the inter-web, and I am sadly behind the times again, then I apologize for my tardiness.)  I was at the library today, a place notorious for its flagrantly eclectic clientele, and it dawned on me that we can no longer discern whether someone is just plain old bat shit nuts (and I use my wee self elf as a modest example), wandering around talking to themselves, or…. are they an advanced member of society, being all modern and crap, and speaking to another live human on a hands-free telephonic device?  Who’s to say?  I really kind of like that this has now brought these two groups closer together.  In a skewed and strange way.

Scooter’s passive/aggressive silent protest to the new front yard deck.  Oh yeah, and also Dan, who is doing all the work, virtually alone, as he did the fence and gate.

My pathetic attempt to wrangle nearly a hundred damn pounds of tufty German Shepard into a photo-op.

The Sacred Union ~ 27 ~ partnership, romance.

This one is all about beautiful, true partnership and harmony.  It reminds us that Spirit is listening and is always by our side, helping us to co-create our greatest desires and manifest our destiny.  When this is our Ally we know that we are never alone on our path.  Partnership with the Divine is ours whenever we need help.  It also represents the coming together of all kinds of harmonious alliances: friendship, family, business, and of course romance.

Oh yeah, I am all over this one.  It is calm and deep and very romantic.  There is an Impressionistic (???) painting that depicts two lovers from the Medieval Times (possibly even called “The Lovers” or “The Kiss”) that reminds me of this particular card (and I only know about it because there is a cross stitch pattern at Scarlet Quince based on it).  Two figures are standing close together, face to face, one head above the other, in just the split second before they kiss.  (This illustration appears to be of a man and woman, but as always, gender is optional.  I am going to describe them as one of each for simplicity purposes only.)  Her arm is bent at the elbow, hand up close to his chest, resting on his hand which is in a sort of silver gauntlet glove holding a long, gold pommelled, sword that is pointed down to the ground.  She is wearing a floor length, diaphanous gown in shades of white and cream, contrasting gorgeously with his cloak of dark red, that has metallic trim along its edges.  He has puffy white sleeves and more silver armour on his shoulders.  They are standing in a misty grove, with a curved stone wall behind her, and a fall of greenery, delicately sprinkled with dark roses, at his back.  There are points of light on either side of the scene, a lantern barely higher than his head, a tiny fairy poised on the tip of a fern near her feet, and a bright flower in the opposite bottom corner.  The overall tones are muted and so rich.

My library in pictures.

I realized, after looking at the photos I took, that I never shot the outside of the building.  And it’s a gorgeous, award winning place.  So go there, and see what it looks like.  Then, enjoy my day.

We are in the parking garage.

We pay to park.  (Only a quarter, won’t stay longer than 20 minutes.)

Our hold items are ready for pick up.

I’ll show you around a bit, it’s lovely.

Is that our favorite librarian?

It is Dennis!  But why is he smiling?  That’s never good.

Now we leave.

In the Wee Walnut.

And this is what we brought home.  (Oh yeah, and the new purse I made this week.  I know, it’s too purple for me too, but it has flamingos!)
