Summing Up a Sunny Sunday.

When I was a kid we used to joke that the weather for January (and on in to February) was last year’s left-overs, it needed to get all used up before Spring arrived.  Yesterday’s hail became today’s sunshine.  (Still cold though.)  Dan and Max and I went out and enjoyed a bunch of it earlier.

We used one of the new GPS programs on his fancy phone.  It comes back with information like this:

1011 Valley River Way Activity type: walking Description: – Total distance: 2.21 km (1.4 mi) Total time: 32:50 Moving time: 29:58 Average speed: 4.04 km/h (2.5 mi/h) Average moving speed: 4.42 km/h (2.7 mi/h) Max speed: 14.40 km/h (8.9 mi/h) Average pace: 14.86 min/km (23.9 min/mi) Average moving pace: 13.57 min/km (21.8 min/mi) Fastest pace: 4.17 min/km (6.7 min/mi) Max elevation: 137 m (448 ft) Min elevation: 82 m (270 ft) Elevation gain: 127 m (417 ft) Max grade: 0 % Min grade: 0 % Recorded: 02/24/2013 16:41

And a map that looks like THIS.  (You have no idea how happy these little paths-on-a-screen make me, it’s like being able to DRAW where we go.  Seriously, I adore them.  And I am simply THRILLED that we’ve figured out a way to share.  There are totally going to be MORE like this!)

Sadly, we were not as successful in our efforts to find a decent double-boiler.  Or ANY double-boiler, at this point.  We have a few more places to check (three, to be precise).  In the mean-time, the deputy is attempting to make us some fabulous rice pudding without it, I’ll keep you posted.

Here’s something fun though, spotted as we wandered.  About time, too.  I haven’t seen any in ages.

Slightly bedraggled, but we know it showed up for a reason.

Slightly bedraggled, but we know it showed up for a reason.

On our card altar we have a pretty interesting message.  It seems to go several directions, but all of them good.  And encouraging.

animal oracle cards

“Hare  ~

Discernment before a passionate encounter leads to the magic of love.

Hare travels lightly, unfettered, and counsels that you, too, jettison worries that tether you to the present and tie you to the past, cleansing and lightening your mind through meditation or by sharing your fears with another.  Unburdened, you may then react quickly as the future speedily unfolds, avoiding disaster and seizing opportunity.

Hare knows how fragile is the heart.  If deeply drawn to another, look first into their mind and soul.  For it is discernment followed by passion that leads to the magic of love.”

See?  Kinda going several ways there.  My focus was drawn to the cleansing and meditation parts of this message.  My newest endeavor involves some guided Quiet Time, and I’m getting so much out of it already.  Any opportunity we have to Tune In and Recharge is a chance we really should never pass up.

Today’s Deck:

Animal Messages – Seek Inspiration From Your Animal Guides by Susie Green

Today’s Mileage:

as noted above, we walked, 1.37 miles for 32 and a half minutes at 2.51 MPH.  In a great big circle, around the mall.

Last Night’s Baking:

was not technically a failure, only because we COULD eat them (and I have been).  Yes, these are two sizes on purpose, I was using two different pans.  For expediting purposes.

Home-made whole-wheat tortillas

Home-made whole-wheat tortillas,
second attempt.

If I can make biscuits, I can make these bastards.  My blended-and-beige heritage demands it!  (I’ll keep trying.)

LateNight Kitchen Update:

the test batch worked!  No need for a double-boiler if you have a newer, very heavy-bottomed, good quality pan.  (This time we used coconut/almond milk and coconut oil.  No dairy, and really tasty!)

  1. I moved (pool) and cooked (veg soup for tomorrow, roasted veg for tonight) today, too.
    Quiet time coming up.

REST is just an important part of the cycle as all the other aspects. :D

  2. Boy, that gadget is pretty cool. I have got to figure out how that works on my phone. I thought the tortillas looked pretty good. And yay on the rice pudding. We fixed up some enchilada bowls yesterday that were pretty good.

I am finding that my quiet time is punctuated with tuba practice. I have started some new breathing methods (tuba related) that translate very nicely with quiet time. And hyperventilation until I get better at it.

    Two things:

    1) ask 536 about the phone dealie (obviously it’s a free type), text him when you get off shift tomorrow, or meet us at Top City!

and B- no hyperventilating while inside your big musical instrument, one of you could get hurt!

    (That seemed excessively punctuated…….)

  3. Wow, that map app is way cool! And that is a lovely shining bright feather, even if slightly bedraggled (huh, I guess that could sometimes describe us, too, couldn’t it?).

Definitely an interesting message, particularly as I am a Hare in Chinese astrology. Perhaps I have a potentially passionate appointment presently unperceived? (Yeah, I had to use thesaurus-dot-com for the last one–indispensable for alliteration/assonance.) We shall see.

In synchronicity news: our healing theme of the past couple days was so in line with Sarah Varcas’ post “Full Moon in Virgo… Embracing the Healing Cycle” ( http://astro-awakenings.co.uk/full-moon-in-virgo-25th-february-2013 ). At the bottom there’s a link for another free download, a 17-page look at Mercury retrogrades, and how they can benefit us, if we let them. She also talks about the energies & chart of each of the three retrograde stations this year (all in Water signs). I just have to reiterate here how very much I love her approach!

    ~
Yes, lol. We are all a wee bit bedraggled slash sparkly, aren’t we? And hey, nice thesaurus work there!

Oh wow, that full moon (in VIRGO, me!) is perfect for right now! (Put it in the post.) She is super cool, no doubt about it.

  4. Well, my Sunday was a day of no movement (well, like most of my days lately) and no accomplishments and lots of talking myself into relaxing and talking myself out of feeling guilt or shame for doing nothing. Just a kind of meltdown day. I expect better today. And my first movers estimate in person. So what if the place is a mess? They are here to evaluate moving my stuff, not me personally.

I’ll work on jettisoning worries and cleansing and lightening my mind. That sounds good. I just don’t have time for a passionate encounter! :)

If a passionate encounter dropped on to your doorstep, you’d MAKE the time. :P

  5. My Sunday was mostly spent in bed. After several nights of no sleep (our furnace is dying noisily and has to be replaced a.s.a.p. and I’m freaking over the money), I finally crashed for 12 hours. No movement here that didn’t involve food, couch, bathroom, and bedroom.

I luuuve your phone gismo. I have geek gadget envy.

And what’s wrong with the tortillas? They look fine.

I think I’ll go with the cleansing and meditation too. Stress is wiping me out.

    ~
    No envy, not a gadget!
It’s some fitness freebie on his phone.

  7. Discernment before a passionate encounter leads to the magic of love. This particular line struck me, but I’m not sure why.

Yay feather! Not sure about the double boiler… I’m pretty sure I’ve seen them (I love kitchen supply stores), so I’ll have to ponder & let you know.

Like Judy3, I too moved and cooked today. And I have a new goal. (See my blog for details.)

*hugs* Sorry I’ve been MIA. I have been reading, but I haven’t felt like I’d add much to the conversation.

Here’s the secret to being married more than 30 years:
show an interest in your partner’s interests, even if it takes nearly ALL of those three decades to get there.

Dan is very pleased that now when we arrive at a kitchen store I don’t wait outside, smoking, pacing, and peering in the windows, rushing him and asking if he’s done in there yet.
Now, we both wander the aisles together (and I even want some of the things they sell).
