Accordance Attitude.

Here’s some of the things we learned today on our bike ride in the rain:

  1. tip found on-line regarding shower caps for seat covers is GOLDEN
  2. skirt system needs some adjustments
  3. well-made panniers are totally worth whatever the hell the asking price is
  4. beauty supply store headbands are a treasure
  5. running pants are fine for a light mist, but RealLiveRainGear is  essential for actual precipitation (of biblical proportions, like we were bombarded with this afternoon)
  6. wear a ball cap, the brim will keep a great deal of the torrential downpour out of your nose and eyes, in your mouth it doesn’t matter
  7. Crocs work beautifully, as emergency reservoirs ……..
crocs

….. or water buckets.
(You maybe can’t see this, but my shoes are half-full.)

Yeah, we have a few bugs to work out yet before autumnal pedaling becomes second-nature.  It was a terrific test run though!

On the health front, my back has returned to 98% perfectly healed.  In pool class this evening I could still tell that I’d pulled the shit out of it on Thursday, but over all, I felt really good.

Still giving much credit to this magical elixir though, not even kidding.  I shared the recipe with Mom when she called yesterday, too.  (And promised to run a copy off for Patty.)

glass jars

Those skinny jars equal two coffee-cup-fulls.

Just be aware that if you make this recipe, don’t let it spill on to anything that you can’t bleach clean.  The turmeric stains.  A.  Lot.

On our card altar today we have a soothing message which I hope everyone will take to heart and seriously apply, to whatever is going on in their lives right now.

Peace  ~

Archangel Chamuel:

‘Peace comes from remembering that only love is real.’

Additional message:

‘Look past the surface of this situation and see the underlying truth: that everyone involved is a child of God filled with love.  By focusing upon this truth, you elicit loving behavior and solutions.

Even though appearance may seem otherwise, trust that a higher wisdom is in charge.  Love is the only power that exists, and its light shines away any seeming darkness   Hold the intention to look for examples of this light within yourself and others, and you will have more light in your mind, heart, thoughts, and life.

This knowledge is the foundation of Peace.’

Working further:

When you wish to feel more centered, calm, and peaceful, call upon Chamuel.  He is the archangel of personal, and global peace.  He is very kind, loving, and sweet, and he’ll evoke a pleasant feeling of excitement when he works with you.  Know that Chamuel sees your true qualities and loves you unconditionally.”

Substitute any words that don’t work for you, but don’t let this message pass by without acknowledging the strength of it.  I was guided to use this deck, it’s not in our regular rotation but one of the stacks that is now across the top of our (newly secure) table.

The Witch’s Reading Progress continues to positively move forward.  I finished John Irving’s latest offering, and it was fab.  The reason I like his work is that it flows along interestingly.  No IN MY FACE conflict, or contrived bullshit.  Just lots of people doing lots of basic things.  And talking about them with other people.  Also, he’s a boundary-crosser.  I like that.

Next up to finish and share with you all is one Hanna recommended earlier this year, which she and Dan have since read, but I didn’t get to.  More brain work, JulieLanders!  You know how I love the mind exercising.

LateNight Family Shout-Out:

hey, Cousin Jannelly….. how did I miss your birthday and why can’t I find out when it was?  This week?  Last week?  Today?  Yesterday?  Tomorrow?

Thinking of using this for a new header picture, but I’m not fond of the condom-like appearance of the sheathed seats.  Yes, Dan’s is wearing a hotel laundry bag, whatever.

  1. Glad the test run did its duty, and you now know what needs tweaking with your system!

So glad you’ve found the lemonade to be so very helpful… and, hey, now you have something you can turn to after you make efforts to push past your comfort zone when working out! Bonus! (Did you manage to find the Himalayan salt? I read today that it also helps the body’s electro-magnetic flow)

Wonderful & beautiful card! (Especially since today they were breaking up the concrete slab of the apartment building next to mine that got burned out in early summer… heavy equipment pounding, breaking, moving & dumping concrete chunks is NOT AT ALL peaceful! But it’s all done now, so I am looking forward to having a peaceful morning wherein I am NOT woken up before 9 am by heavy equipment & ground-shaking work 25 feet away from me!)

GAH! I hate morning work crews. The bastards.

Yep, found it right away. Then the next day I saw it someplace else, so it seems like this ingredient is NOT hard to find.

  2. You can get Himalayan salt at Mkt of Choice, and not too expensive. There are some things that are worth cobbling together, and some that are necessary to have purpose built. My tuba stand is one of the latter. I think turmeric was used as a dye by indigenous peoples…it has stained my counter quite nicely. And there are two sides to waterproof, as you’re finding out.

In the “FWIW” category, my friend Mary’s Mom broke her foot recently; rather than put a boot on it (non-displaced), her doc told her to wear her Crocs, as they are the perfect thing for keeping her foot stable.

Ha, I love that they are now considered therapeutic!

  3. Hi there!! You didn’t miss my birthday, actually. It’s not until next week. Thanx for thinking of me. I love the biking-in-the-rain preparedness. Very impressive!!

    ~
    WHEW !!!

    And thank you, we’re trying.

  4. Wonderful card! I’m already working toward a place of happiness, serenity, and peace, so this adds to my work. I’ll add Chamuel to the mix and see how it goes. As well as the rest of it.

The story of your rain preparedness and results is great to read about. And I’m so glad the paniers are so wonderful! Do you ever check at Goodwill or other thrift stores to see if they have any rain gear for riding?

I’m not surprised the crocs act like a rain bucket: they have holes on the top and they are water proof on the bottom! Any thoughts on other bike-in-the-rain shoes?

    ~
I love used clothes shops, and we have a nice selection here. But no, I’ve never thought to look there for raingear. I will now!

Oh hell, I was going to address that whole shoe thing in a post. Okay, tomorrow then.

  5. I discovered the staining power of turmeric the other day. Does a wonderful job. ;)

    ~
Ally said, above, that she thought it was used as dye, which I immediately thought of when I realized it was all over my counter. :P

  6. Running shoes are good for the rain. They’re made so they don’t retain much water. You’re feet will still get wet though. But you won’t feel like you’re wearing cement overshoes.

Could definitely use some peace and calm.

When I first got the bike out I tried my walking shoes (still can’t run and haven’t been able to afford any running shoes yet). It was a waste of socks. Made more laundry than I needed to be doing. (And I love laundry.) I’m going to talk about it in tomorrow’s post I think.

  7. I had to look up what panniers are. So that’s how my day is going. ;)

So happy your back is feeling better. Good back + good book = good day.

And you found out that the word just means:
    saddle bags,
    right?

Yep, and that’s my kinda math!

  8. Where does one find Himalayan salt?
Your committment to your bike riding is inspiring!

    ~
Pretty much any health food store. Do you have some close by? Or not too far from you? A nutrition shop or compounding pharmacy might also have it. Good luck! And if you come up with only on-line options (plus outrageous bullshit shipping and handling charges) e-mail me. I’ll send you some of mine.

    ~
Yipee for peaceful days! We had a nice sunny one here, so I was happy with that.
