Emotional Extremes.

No pictures* today.  And not because I didn’t go out.  I did.  But it was stupid.  Did any of you see my tweets to Hanna a few days ago about what is open and what is usually closed for Columbus Day?  (Also, why the fuck do we still even HAVE that offensive and wrong non-holiday on calendars anyway?!)

*With our usual exception of the card.

Every day but today I knew that the post office would be closed.  This afternoon when I rode my bike there, I forgot.  Anger and a resigned state of supreme disappointment set in.  How sad is it to show up someplace and then realize your mistake?  Inside (and sometimes outloud) you’re screaming SHIT! I KNEW THIS!!!  (The answer is, it’s very sad, very very sad.)

I pedaled home.  Fine.  I got some exercise.  But my errand will now have to be repeated tomorrow.  Hell.

Earth Dwellers:  Mouse, Porcupine, Badger, Scorpion, and Fox

These messengers make their homes within the safe, secure, and embracing element of the earth itself, and counsel that you too should remain grounded.  If material anxieties and worries are dominating your mind, they advise that you pay attention to what is truly important in life – your family, your true friends, your partner, and nature.

Earth-dwellers counsel that you reconnect with the wild world, even if this is as ephemeral as walking in a city park.  The grass may be manicured, the earth trodden hard, but beneath the surface worms and insects work tirelessly to renew the soil and its touch beneath bare feet can stabilize you, even when much seems lost.”

This is interesting to me because I just read an article about another* near-by location that hikers and nature-lovers around here speak highly of.  I’ve never been up there, other than to the parking lot which leads to the close-in all-purpose shelter area.  I was sort of thinking, ”hmm, maybe Dan and I should do this before the rain gets here.”   I guess we will.

*I say “another” because ya know, I’ve hiked now.  Once.

In a new relationship passion offers the challenge of ecstasy and pain.

Imbued with the powers of such wonder as protecting the mighty Egyptian goddess, Isis, from puissant enemies, Scorpion inspires both reverence and respect.  Her sting brings forth both death and a potent aphrodisiac for her mate, passion; a reminder that sex affects our psyches in different and powerful ways.

At our most vulnerable we can be painfully hurt; at our most passionate, transported into ecstasy.  Relationships entered into now will profoundly affect your being.  Scorpion counsels that you accept the challenge.”

No clue what to say about this one.  Everybody for themselves, you’re on your own.  Have at it, JulieLanders.

LateNight MixxMaxx News:

the crate re-training has been going very well.  But only when we can keep him IN the damn thing.  He’s a Houdini Dog.  I can’t explain it.   Don’t ask.  (Eventually he’ll go live with his actual owner-person, and just come here for the occasional visit.  I hope.)

Also, my toaster is actively dying.  Yes, the NEW one.  (Whenever it was that we bought that last one.  A year ago?  Two?!  Again, not something I care that much about right now, I’m merely filling you in with the news of my day.  Which was overwhelmingly heavy and depressing, in a First World Problem sort of way.)

  1. Scorpion, huh… Well, that is Dan’s astrological animal (Mom’s too) so not surprising that you’d see Scorpion at some point. Interesting message.

I hate silly “holidays”. (dead) President’s Day is up there, but this last one takes the cake. I remember Mom telling me that after my Dad died (he died on Dec. 28th) she would muster up her ability to go out and “do errands” and ended up catching both MLK and DPD. Labor day is another head scratcher.

Gonna have to go check out that food blog…

….. and get back to resting/healing? Yes, I heard that you PERHAPS left the sickbed a wee bit too soon. :P

  2. Wow that card is kind of random an ‘seemingly’ unrelated to anything in my life. Note the word ‘seemingly’. Something may come to me later.
Hope you have a better day today!

  3. I’d be fine if a profound sexual relationship entered my life right now. Really!

Now I didn’t even realize that it was Columbus Day; my therapist was open as was the grocery store and the park — all places I needed to go. That’s all that mattered to me. And yes, it’s a ridiculous holiday and should e replacedwith something else. Only government offices celebrate it anymore. I think there should be one public holiday a month where everyone gets the day off. They don’t celebrate MLK day down here, oddly enough, but they do DPD. Figures. And Good Friday.

I can’t even discuss state governments which do NOT respect Martin Luther King Day…..

  5. That’s okay. I got all excited when I saw there was no line at the bank. :)

My very first toaster lasted like 20 years. I bought it back in the 80′s. It would have cost more to fix it than to buy a new one, so I got rid of it. Bad move. I’m on my 3rd toaster in 8 years. And now, of course, there aren’t any people who repair old stuff anymore. They can’t make a living. The parts of things, by themselves, cost more than buying new and forget adding on labor. I’ll stop with that. The fact that we are such a throw away, disposable everything, cheap quality society makes me crazy. Wait, wait, there’s the light socket down over the laundry section of the basement. Specifically the on/off switch – chain pull. This house is nearly 50 years old. Roughly 15 years after we moved in we had to replace the light socket. That one lasted about 4 years. Aaaaand we just replaced it again, 2 years for that one. Makes me nuts. Ooo, Ooo, plastic, non-replaceable switches and knobs on expensive metal stuff, and….

Thanks for the sympathy and well wishes. Jake, however, isn’t going to make it. There is a drug that might buy him some time as well as make him more comfortable, if he can take it. So we’ll be starting that up tomorrow.

Dan and I JUST had that exact same rant last night!!!

I’m beyond sorry about Jake. :(

  6. “Relationships entered into now will profoundly affect your being.” My radio (for what it’s worth) is suggesting that this be modified to: “Relationships entered into or renewed now will profoundly affect your being.”

and p.s. THAT’s why there wasn’t any mail today! at least you remembered once you got there. :-)

    Well done, thank you !!!
