PDX Safe Landing.

In the history of ridiculous departures, we have topped even our own “best” (read: worst).  The background is that the new gym has some deliveries on the way, fun work-out toys and equipment which will help on oh so many levels.  In the past few days they’ve been arriving fast and furious, but yesterday was Friday, so if nothing showed up by end of business hours, nothing WOULD show up until Monday.

We were all packed (eventually) and ready to leave, and kind of resigned to the fact that maybe the scheduled delivery wouldn’t make it today after all.  So we left.  Then, we saw the UPS truck coming right towards us.  By the time Dan got turned around, we’d lost him.

Our neighborhood is somewhat dense, and the streets tend to take various non-grid-like twists, up and down hills.  One brown van is easy to lose.  However, these were Ryon’s ropes so we persevered.  To success!

Of course, the car was full to the gills so Dan tied the box of work-out cordage to the top.  (Our Griswald’s Adventure had truly begun.)  One library drive-thru later, we delivered our bonus passenger and the new fitness coils to his front door.  After heart-felt goodbyes and see-you-Mondays we were off.

To the coffee shack.  Where we happened to see a deputy friend.  Which meant, still more delay.   We briefly visited and caught up.  THEN we got on the freeway.  Fortunately, Hanna & Co were also running slightly on the tardy side.

We made one pit stop (yes, it IS only a two hour drive).  Our directions were in hand (specifically on Dan’s fancy phone, because even though I was exquisitely diligent about printing off our instructions  I left the paper IN THE PRINTER TRAY!)  We were only slightly hindered by the GPS  locating us in Hawaii , with the third suggestion of travel saying to “travel across the Pacific Ocean” (but we ignored that), however, we  soldiered along.

hotel pools

Oh yeah.
Hotel pool.

And made it.  Then I found the pool.  Peace reigned throughout the land.  (Adam had gone across the parking lot to the [I am NOT even kidding] Food Sak for wine, so they weren’t too concerned with our less-than-timely appearance.)

Later when we took the dogs out for their last pee walk, we spotted an awesome leopard print hobo carpet remnant.   And there’s a smell we can’t pin down (completely unrelated to the rug).  ”Chicken barn” is our definition of it, but where it’s coming from in THIS part of town is a complete mystery.

And speaking of the occult  plus shit we can’t see, here’s our daily draw.  No, it’s not a picture we’ll all get to make fun of this time, it’s simply an image that won’t be shared.  Trust me.  The words are plenty.

goat calendars

Something I didn’t even know existed.

That is a calendar.  I wanted to buy it, but resisted.  If I still feel the need for it later, I know where they live.  (Also wanted but not purchased: Fairy Houses, 365 Days of Cake.)

  1. *waves from Montana* We’ve been at a cross-country meet two hours away all day– not quite as far as the distance between Eugene and PDX, but similar. I so wish I was there to soak in that hot tub with you. Great card, and how can I not love GOATS IN TREES??? Oh, my that is priceless.

  2. LOL! Well if you’re going to have a Lampoon’s-style delayed departure, the trip where you’re only driving (well, presumably, Dan’s only driving) 2 hours is the one to do that on, for sure!

OMG, the GPS putting you in Hawaii (oh, if only it were that easy… sigh) reminds me of a great little glitchy Google Maps thing that I read about somewhere, sometime ago, and had completely forgotten about… I just tried it and it still works… go to Google Maps and “Get Directions,” type in Japan as point A,and China as point B, scroll down to read number 41. LOL!

Whenever you don’ t show a card all it does is make me wanna see the pic, because now I’m so very curious as to why you won’t show us! Wonderful message, though!

OMFG, I SOOOO WANT A GOATS IN TREES CALENDAR! THAT’S FRICKIN AWESOME!

  3. Wow, I’ve seen a picture on the lolcats site of goats in a tree, but to have enough different pictures of goats in trees suggests that it’s a phenomenon. Why are these goats in trees? Why are goats able to climb trees in the first place? It violates the hoofed animals on the ground, clawed and handed animals in trees rule. You probably need this calendar.

    Great card. Picture me prepared!

I’d need a pit stop for a 2-hour drive. I always do. One hour drives require I first stop in the ladies’ room upon arrival.

Glad you were able to catch the UPS driver and he was willing to give you the delivery away from home. I don’t think they’d do that here.

  4. What adventures! Hope you’re having a blast. Our trip has been molto successful with more on tap for today.

  5. Have a great trip!
Smiling over Goats in Trees. Must go google that.

  6. A new chapter…I want to believe that I am almost ready.
I feel that it is there…
    waiting

  7. lol The gps thing makes your life seem like a situation comedy!
