Bread Of Life.

             Today I’m going to tell you my day in pictures.  So, sit back and prepare for adorableness.  But also some good information from the Universe.  Plus a few other bits of this and that.

             I began my afternoon by standing in the card altar room and waiting for a sign.  I knew that we were not going to continue the rotation, it just felt as though I needed to be facing the other direction.  My eyes landed on that old Sylvia Browne deck.  Remember it?

Nutrition  ~

People are all chemically different, but everybody needs protein – a human body cannot exist on just sugar.  Treat your body with respect by feeding it nourishing and nutritious foods.

             How very timely, since I just ended last night’s post with a food/diet/exercise-related whine (but no cheese).  We’ll come back to this topic later.

            The next thing I did (after taking all of my regular vitamins and supplements and drinking a bottle-ful of water) was to go outside.  With some company.

             The rules for blog photos are strict, a very important one  is “no-animals-from-behind shots!”   Sadly, I had to break that commandment because I am NOT a good Grand Dog wrangler.  (Does the saying herding cats mean anything to you?!)

             I make exceptions, to nearly every law I enact.  Bleh, it’s just how real life turns out to be.  Whatever.

             So then, we got some phone photos from the Away Kids.  Here is a lovely, and oh so picturesque view, from Stinson Beach.

             An amount of time went by.  I did other stuff.  Dan grumbled over bill-paying.  I made two pieces of toast for him, with the excellent ciabatta loaf that Empress brought home the other night.

             As we were getting ready to head off into the next portion of our day, we received this.

             Speaking of fashion models!  Look how well she dresses up.  I hope they have an absolutely WONDERFUL time at this festive event.  (And all the other places they’re going, too.)

             Daniel put on his gear, I put on some comfy-for-biking clothes, and we told the dogs to behave.  He left.  I rode down to Sundance*.   Remember a few posts back when Hanny said she might have a messenger bag I could borrow?  Well, she brought it, along with her pets (she actually  packed their luggage in it).

            Right, well.  That’s a crappy angle.  But take my word for it, this item is IDEAL for my needs!  So perfect.  I was still sweaty coming home, but wow, the carrier worked tremendously well.

             After I put the food and bike away, I went back out in front.  With company.  Again.

             The rocket-scientist next door was using an electric saw in his garage, and we could hear him.  Then we heard him talking to his wife on the other side of our fence.   ALL dogs found that to be interesting.  I eventually left my seat and went to pick blueberries.

             That’s about how many I got yesterday too.  I love having them RIGHT there!  Update on my radishes, with no photo, because now it’s dark out and I forgot: un-sure.

             The leaves are getting huge, but when I pull any up (for thinning or simply to use the greens in a salad) no progress on the root portion.  Odd.  But, it’s me, so not entirely unexpected.

             Back to our discussion of Nutrition.  I don’t have much.  Just a mention about the definition on our daily draw.  From my own experience this past year, what I’ve been reading (and Han has been sending me/publishing), and from having two-thirds of my children be non-meat-eaters for more than half their lives now, I know, without any doubts, that humans do not NEED to consume animal products.  We LIKE them, and some of them are actually very good for us.  But not all, and not all the time, and not for all people.

             We must each make our own choices and walk our own paths.  We must all follow our heart and conscience.  For me, I like knowing that my food is chosen with care and concern.  As are the selections my children make.  (Yes, I’m including the son in there too, even though he is a carnivore, he does opt enviro-friendly when he can.)

             Do I think that everyone should eat the way I do?  Not a chance.  Because for one thing, I can’t always stick with what I’m preaching here.  I have to go with what’s available, just like everyone else.  But what I think is even more important, is that we TRY.  And that we KNOW what our options are.  Even if we can’t always choose the best item, we are aware.  And that’s about all anyone can ask of us.

  1. Ha! I get to be first! But I should be in bed, it’s three hours later here. I love your pictures. I went to the American Idol concert in Manchester, NH tonight. Very fun. A friend treated me. I have fabulous friends! To bed with me!

  3. Well this is timely. I have conveniently closed all the doors behind which hide good eating knowledge for a few weeks now and eaten junkety junk junk. Need to open them back up again. Maybe prop them open with something heavy so I’ll have to be more conscious when trying to close them in the future.
    Very much enjoyed your day in pics and glad that Hannah had the perfect bag for you!

  4. ahhhh, there’s some more of that Universal lining-up… I JUST got done writing about my frustrations with myself for treating my body so terribly since the move and eating all sorts of crap and feeling bloated and sluggish, and vowing to do better because I deserve better… and ten I checked my email and saw this. Ha! Today I pledge to nurture my body and present it with nutritious whole foods and fresh water. ALSO, you’re not kidding about the retrograde crap you’ve been detailing and its effects on our everyday existence – firstly, my internet connection could not BE slower, and secondly, what’s up with all the petty bickering I’ve been engaged in? Eeeeeep. Is it December yet?! What are our coping mechanisms???

    • Oh hell yes, the arguments and bickering is at an all-time high right now, every fucking where I turn. The key to keeping it NOT damaging? Jokes. Toss out anything funny you can think of. A. Lot. (In a comical or singing voice would gain bonus points.)

      Also? Walk it off. When shit gets tense just start marching around. (YOU could probably run.) Even if it’s merely a few steps away from the situation, walk off.

      Wear those rose (-quartz) colored glasses. See as much as you can with love in your eyes. And then, count your blessings.

      If those three don’t help, then lock yourself in a bathroom. :?

  5. Han looks like Christina Ricci in that picture, in that she’s tiny and looks snarky and has a weird smile and giant eyebrows.

  6. Both Hanna and J.A. look great; what a wonderful trip for them to be on. I am glad the messenger bag is what you need. There was some bill paying grumbling going on at our place, too, yesterday. Funny that.

    We had an interesting meal last night. Breakfast for dinner, in that we had pancakes and breakfast meat (bacon and sausage); Mary made some savory pancakes with broccoli and onions, with some tangy sauce, and we had glorious fried potatoes. Meat, potatoes and tomatoes were grilled on my new (that I am babysitting) grill that is more appropriately described as a rustic kitchen. All produce was grown by Mary, flour was gluten free, and meat was local. The shots of fireball whiskey were not.

    I envy you your blueberries. I bought a blueberry plant that was supposed to be good for containers – not. I was so disappointed it didn’t make it through the winter. And your radishes sound like they are okay. You need alot of leaves to produce the extra amount of ‘food’ needed to make the bulb.

  10. My girls are getting broccoli tonight … one of the only green things they will eat voluntarily.

  11. Love Hanna’s dress. Two out of four are non-meat eaters. We waffle between “to be or not” and trying very hard not to eat wheat and diary. Lost 12 count them, twelve freaking pounds since I saw you last. Feeling much better now. Blueberries.. yum, yum. Missing Mom this weekend.

    We are all in the same boat, Dan. Work, bills, work and excellent children to brag about.

  14. I have not been counting my blessings lately, and tonight the Captain reminded me of them, and it annoyed me. So, that’s where my head/the planets are at. Plus I have a teenager that I really, really wish would stop being such an idiot. But then I suppose he wouldn’t be a teenager anymore, and that would make me older than I already am. Okay.
